HandyPress® #9 Rivets & Burrs Die Set

This HandyPress®-compatible die set, commonly known as West Coast dies, makes it easy to install solid metal rivets and burrs. This three-piece set comes with the two upper dies and one lower die you need to install solid brass or copper rivets and burrs with no hand fatigue. This three-piece set includes two upper dies (U-1 and U-2) and one lower die (L). It is perfectly sized to install #9 rivets and burrs. 

To Use: 

1. Install the die labeled U-1 into the main vertical shaft's inner diameter and secure with the thumbscrew. This die is hollow to accommodate the rivet post. 
2. Place the HandyPress 3/8" lower adapter into the tool base, then install the die labeled L and secure it with the thumbscrew. 
3. Set the tool for appropriate compression as directed in the HandyPress guidebook.
4. Place a rivet through a 1/8" precut hole in your material assembly, then place the rivet on the lower die with the post facing up. Place a burr onto the rivet.
   1.  Note: Select rivet length based on the thickness of the leather or material that you are penetrating. The rivet must extend roughly 1/8" from the top surface of the material.
5. Pull the handle down to press the burr onto the rivet post. 
6. Trim the excess rivet post with wire or rivet cutters (sold separately), leaving about 1/8" of post behind. 
7. Remove the U-1 die and install the die labeled U-2 in the same manner. This die has a small concave indentation.
8. Pull the handle down to round and smooth the cut portion of the rivet post. The installation is now complete!
9. Use a Leather or Riveting Hammer with a smooth striking surface to finish the rivet post top to your liking. It can be peened flat or left proud to meet your aesthetic needs.

Please Note: This die set does not cut holes in the leather/fabric assembly; holes must be cut before rivets and burrs can be installed. Hole punches are sold separately. Wire/rivet cutters are sold separately.
