Sew it yourself! The Leatherworkers' Hand-Stitching Starter Kit has the tools and thread you need to hand-stitch wallets, bags, and other small leather goods. It's a simple way for beginners to learn saddle stitching, and it gives experienced leatherworkers a dedicated hand-sewing setup they can use again and again.

Hand stitching leather comes down to three steps: groove, punch, and stitch. Start with the Sailrite® Adjustable Leather Stitching Groover, which cuts a stitch line 5/64" to 3/4" (2 to 19 mm) from the edge. Next, punch the holes with the Sailrite® Diamond Stitching Chisel Set; its 1-, 2-, 4-, and 6-prong tips space holes at about 5 stitches per inch and punch up to 16 oz. total leather thickness. Finish with a saddle stitch, which uses two needles on one thread, so a single broken stitch won't unravel the seam. A mallet and cutting/punching surface are not included, so we recommend adding the Sailrite® Round Maul and Rubber Poundo Board for driving the chisels.
