Twisted Waxed Polyester thread is a reliable choice for hand-sewing leather due to its tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and professional appearance.

Polyester thread is more resistant to rot and degradation than other hand sewing threads such as linen. Polyester thread tails can also be heat-sealed with a thread burner or lighter for clean, finished seams.

The waxed finish reduces friction while sewing, prevents fraying by binding fibers tightly together, adds water resistance, and gives the thread more grip. The slight tackiness helps the thread “bite” the leather and stay tensioned consistently as you transition your hand sewing needles to the next stitch hole.
